When Kia and Ron first reached out about their dreams for their 2nd-anniversary session, I was immediately drawn to the depth and richness of their vision. Having spent a decade together and celebrated their wedding in Puerto Rico two years ago, they wanted this session to be a true reflection of their journey and how far they’ve come together. After much searching across the DFW metroplex, we finally landed on Thompson’s Bookstore & Speakeasy for their session. And let me say, it was perfect. But, more on that in a minute.

When we initially sat down together, Kia described their relationship to me as “feeling like 90s R&B music”. And I just absolutely loved that description. It instantly paints a picture, doesn’t it? They’re extraordinarily down-to-earth, laid back and chill. They’re old souls with modern flares, and they wanted their anniversary session to embody that. They envisioned a moody, old-school, elevated environment—somewhere that allowed them to be relaxed and themselves. While hinting at and celebrating the beautiful life they’ve been able to create together.

So, the perfect backdrop for their session? Thompson’s Bookstore & Speakeasy in downtown Fort Worth. This location was a match made in heaven for Kia and Ron’s vision. With its rich, vintage decor, dim lighting, backdrop versatility across 3 different floors and an atmosphere that whispers stories of old, the setting couldn’t have been more perfect for their anniversary session.

When planning, one of the key focuses was on finding a space that fit their specific vision. But, they are also the best of friends, a ride-or-die type couple and capturing that deep bond was equally as important.

Their style was sophisticated in all-black, with a hint of their red-bottom shoes—a symbol of their journey and ascension in life. But, in true Kia and Ron fashion, they wanted this detail to be subtle. It was about quietly acknowledging the milestones they’ve reached together. And I absolutely loved the symbolism behind this – what a beautiful thing to celebrate.
