Whether you’re planning an engagement session, anniversary shoot, or family photos, inviting your furry friends to join is a wonderful way to capture your full love story. As an engagement photographer in Dallas, I’ve experienced time again the deep significance that pets hold in relationships. That’s why I’m excited to share a few tips for including your beloved pups in your couple photos!
Tips For Couple Photos With Dogs
Pick a Location that Allows Dogs
The first step, and one that is often overlooked, is ensuring that your chosen location permits dogs. Before finalizing your session spot, do some research online or ask locals for pet-friendly recommendations. Look for signs or check park rules if there’s no specific information available. This way you have peace of mind heading into your session and won’t run into any issues that may interfere with it!
Dress Your Pet for Couple Photos with Dogs
A stylish collar and leash can make a significant difference in your photos. Opt for matching accessories that complement your outfits and create a cohesive look for the entire family. If you’d prefer to avoid purchasing a new collar/leash for the session, then consider adding a photo-ready bandana or bowtie to cover an older collar, adding a touch of charm. Let their personality shine through their attire, and you’ll have a confident and camera-ready dog, ready to steal the show. Additionally, a fresh bath or grooming session before the shoot can ensure your pet looks their absolute best!
Feed and Walk Your Dog Beforehand
To help your dog feel calm and relaxed during the session, it’s helpful to take them for a walk beforehand. This will provide an outlet for their excitement and help them focus during the shoot. Don’t forget to feed them and give them some water before the session begins. A content and well-exercised dog is more likely to sit still and obey instructions, resulting in more effortlessly great photos.
Bring a Dog Buddy
Having a trusted friend or family member join the session as a dog helper can be immensely helpful. As you’re not likely going to want your pups in every shot, this person can watch over them while you and your partner take solo shots. Allowing you to be fully present and in the moment without worrying about managing your fur babies.
Pack Treats and Toys
Treats and their favorite toys are excellent tools to keep your dog engaged and cooperative during the session. Pack some pet treats as emergency snacks that can be used as rewards for good behavior.
Including your furry friends in your engagement session can add an extra layer of love and authenticity to your couple photos. By choosing a dog-friendly location, dressing your pet stylishly, preparing them beforehand, bringing a dog helper, and packing treats, you’re setting the stage for a fun and successful photoshoot!
