I know I’m not alone when I say that there is something incredibly mesmerizing about a freshly cleaned/polished diamond ring. Am I right? Every single time I clean my ring I think: “It won’t get me this time. I mean, surely I’m used to it by now.” But… nope! Without fail, I watch that beauty sparkle and dance in the light every time and think to myself… wow. So, it’s only natural that we would want to keep our rings looking as fiery/shiny as often as possible, right?
Not to mention, it’s better for the longevity of your ring. Everyday wear leads to a build-up of oil, debris, and other residues on the stone and metal surfaces. Which then encourages bacteria to grow and can cause skin irritation and quicker discoloration of some metals. So, regular cleanings are very important! But, it’s simply not realistic to be taking it to a jeweler for professional cleanings every single time. (Although it is worth noting that nothing can replace a professional cleaning and it’s important to take it in for one every so often). But, in the meantime, what are the next best options?
How to Clean Your Diamond Engagement Ring
Today I wanted to share the two best ways I’ve found to keep your diamonds in tip-top shape (or at least as good as possible in between professional cleanings). And those are:
1. Simple dishwashing soap, with warm water and a soft-bristle toothbrush.
This is the best and safest way to clean your rings at home. (Be sure to steer clear of harsher household cleaning products which can do more damage than good to your ring. Simple dishwashing soap is all you need.)
Here are the simple steps:
a) fill a bowl with very warm water
b) add dishwashing soap
c) let your diamond soak for 20-40 minutes
d) gently brush with a very soft toothbrush
e) air dry or pat with soft cloth
Or, if you need an on-the-go option…
2. The Diamond Dazzle Stik.
Which is essentially the first option, but condensed into one little on-the-go stick.
I have personally been using the Diamond Dazzle Stik since I got engaged and keep it in my purse at all times. And I absolutely love it! I don’t always remember to clean my ring at home and it’s hard to predict when you might run into somebody who wants to see your new bling! So, it’s really nice to be able to run to the bathroom and give it a quick cleaning before showing it off!
Highlights:
a) it’s safe to use on diamonds, all precious and semi-precious stones, platinum and gold jewelry (not advised to use on other organic stones or silver*)
b) it’s a small pen-sized stick, so it’s easily portable
c) the brush bristles are very soft and easily get between settings without scratching the surface
d) the cleaner is inside the stick, so it’s a no-mess guaranteed situation – simply wet, twist, brush, rinse off and you’re done! It’s so quick and easy!
I literally do not leave the house without it anymore. I am obsessed and my ring looks brand new all the time, with very minimal effort! Couldn’t recommend this more.
