The Dallas Fort Worth area has many beautiful photo locations. From White Rock Lake’s stunning water views to Prairie Creek Park with its breathtaking waterfall and bridges. To a handful more we break down in our guide to the best DFW photoshoot locations. But, today I want to talk about the natural beauty of Tandy Hills.
Read on to find out what makes this Natural Area so special and why it has quickly become one of the most popular photography locations in the Dallas Fort Worth area.
Tandy Hills: Prairieland in the Heart of Fort Worth
Tandy Hills is actually not a typical park, but a protected natural area that is home to over 900 native plants and animal species. The city of Fort Worth obtained the area in 1960 and designated it a natural area in 1987. The over 160 acres are a great example of how the Fort Worth area looked in predeveloped times: wide-open prairie grassland. Plus, with this year’s purchase of the adjacent Broadcast Hill land, the area has become one of the largest urban open space areas in the nation with a total of 210 acres.
Located only 5 minutes from downtown Fort Worth, it invites visitors to enjoy its pristine flora, fauna, and vistas.
If you would like to know more about the efforts that are taken to conserve and restore this beautiful piece of land I suggest you visit the website of The Friends of Tandy Hills Natural Area.
Photoshoots at Tandy Hills Natural Area
The popularity of this area as a photoshoot location is mostly due to its inarguable beauty, but also because of its immense variety of stunning photoshoot backdrops. From wide-open grassland, treelined trails, and spectacular views of the downtown Fort Worth skyline.
Tandy Hills offers endless possibilities for beautiful photography in an easy-to-walk area close to downtown.
If you need driving directions you can view a map here. In case you were wondering parking is available right up alongside the park.
Tandy Hills: a year-round Photo Location
The area shows its beauty all year round. During spring when literally thousands of native wildflowers bloom. In summer when before sunset the whole park is painted in a beautiful golden light. During the fall when the leaves change their color to stunning reds. And in winter when the days are shorter and the sun is lower in the sky.
At Tandy Hills Natural Area, every season offers unique photo opportunities.
